Backed by golden dunes and a restored historic lifesaving station, this National Seashore beach offers calm, clean water and stunning views in both directions.  Arrive early in summer — the parking lot fills fast and the shuttle from the Little Creek lot is the easiest way in.

Nauset Light Beach —  Named for the iconic red-and-white lighthouse that stands watch above it, Nauset Light Beach is a postcard come to life.  The waves here are a bit more active than Coast Guard, making it a favorite with boogie boarders and experienced swimmers.  The lighthouse is open for climbing on select weekends — the view from the top is worth every step.

First Encounter Beach — For something calmer and more local in feel, First Encounter Beach on Cape Cod Bay is a hidden gem.  The water is warmer, the tides are dramatic (low tide reveals acres of tidal flats perfect for exploring with kids), and sunsets here are absolutely spectacular.  This is where the Pilgrims first made contact with the Wampanoag people in 1620 — history lovers will appreciate the marker.

Marconi Beach — Head a few miles south to Wellfleet and you'll find Marconi Beach — named for the wireless station Guglielmo Marconi built here in 1901 to send the first transatlantic wireless message. A favorite for those who like their beach days with a side of history.
